Tonight is the New Member Recognition Event for all of you. You are not required to attend the event, but we encourage you to bring friends and family to this event. We've had a lot of questions about the event over the past week. We ask that you please wear business casual to the event. You can bring as many friends and family as you would like to celebrate this time. The event will start will a short program and history of Golden Key. We will then have a keynote speaker who will speak for about ten minutes. After the speeches, we'll present the certificates to all the new members present. Following the event, we will have a light reception with hors d'oeuvre's.
During this event, we will have two service projects going on as well. Every year, we ask that new members bring a new/lightly used toy or book to the ceremony. We will donate the toys and books to the SAAFE House of Walker County. Last year we donated over 50 toys and 75 children's books. We hope to do just as well this year. Please know that you are NOT required to bring any toys in order to be recognized. This is just one of the ways we help out our community.
Our second service event is called "Cards for Troops." We will have a table set up in the back where new members and their families can sign Christmas and Holiday cards to send to the troops overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. We ask that you sign a couple of cards so that they all have a bunch of names on them. If you are interested in helping out with this event, you can bring a Christmas/Holiday card to the event, and we will lay them out to be signed. This is the first time we've EVER done this event, so we're hoping it's a success.
We'll also be selling Golden Key t-shirts and graduation honor cords at the event. The shirts are $12 each and the cords are $15 dollars each. We hope this answers a lot of your questions about what is going on tonight. If you have anymore please let us know. We encourage you to stay up to date with SHSU Golden Key through Facebook and our blog.
We look forward to seeing you tonight
